In Reply To nascar has zero excitement other than the crashes. (n/m) posted by Spee on April 06, 2008 at 08:46 PM

Message i always found nascar boring on tv, round and round they go...and as a die hard F1 fan i wouldnt have been caught dead at a nascar race, but this one was close to home, and my friend kept insisting, so why not.

my saving grace was this guy, i was supporting him all the way...

first thing u notice right away, these cars are loud, not F1 loud with a high pitched scream, but big bore chest thumping V8 loud, very cool, esp from 40+ at the same time...hitting speeds u will not often see in an F1 race...

also, theres a fair amount of sliding in nascar, u cant see this on TV, but as the cars go up the banking, they actually do a four wheel drift up the hill, very interesting to watch. u can sometimes hear the backfire as they lift before they turn, and as they slide uphill, they scrub speed without having to use too much brake, then rocket down the other side. these cars are definitely being driven at the limits of mechanical and aero grip, the positive camber on the left side was ridiculous...my respect for these drivers has grown...

i was sitting right across from the pits, and unlike F1 where everything is strict and organized, seemed like mayhem in nascar, cars coming out 3 wide, techs running everywhere chasing wheels, using regular jacks and gravity fed fuel tanks...

im not converting, just saying having watched nascar, ALMS, and F1 live, if F1 was a 10, ALMS would be 8, and nascar would be a 6. helps a lot w/ nascar if u have a few drivers to cheer for and are following pit and yellow flag strategy with scanners. anywho, dont knock it until u try it.
